The Challenge
Good films do not reach Chiang Mai. Independent cinema, art-house films, classics, award-winning Thai work that deals honestly with Thai life: the distribution infrastructure simply stops at Bangkok. For years, people in Chiang Mai who cared about cinema had no leverage and no platform. They could want to see a film and have nowhere to direct that wanting.
What I Did
This page started from what I can only describe as รำคาญบันดาลใจ: frustrated inspiration. The annoyance that something this obvious kept not existing, and the decision to make it exist myself.
The model was straightforward: collect petition signatures from people in Chiang Mai who wanted to see a specific film, then use that as a concrete signal to cinemas and distributors that an audience was already there. It turned passive wishing into visible demand. Over time, the page grew into something larger than petitions: a community space for people who care about film, a place to advocate for screenings, organize outdoor film events and discussions, and create the kind of film culture that helps audiences and filmmakers find each other.

What started in Chiang Mai became a model that others in different cities started adapting, pushing for alternative screening spaces and independent film access in their own places across Thailand. Ten years of consistent curation also built something quieter: a voice that people trust when they want to know what is worth watching.
Outcomes
Films have been screened in Chiang Mai that would not have been screened without this page. A community of genuinely film-literate people has formed around it. CMDo has been cited by filmmakers, referenced by arts organizations, and covered in national media as a model for participatory film culture. It is a decade-old ongoing project with no institution behind it and no budget to speak of, and it has outlasted many things with both. It is one of the clearest examples I have of what happens when you decide that the thing you want to exist is your responsibility to build.
